without care during our vacation.Because we believe
that they'll grow just fine.What's more，plants won't
scream(尖叫) like animals，right?
A group of scientists has found that some plants
will scream in a high frequency(频率) when they are
under stress(压力)．The scientists carried out the
research on tomato plants and pepper plants by
breaking their stems(茎) and cutting them off water.
When the scientists started cutting the stems，
they found that the plants started “screaming”
between 20 and 100 kilohertz(千赫)．For the tomato
plants，25 Mayday(求救信号) sounds were given out
over an hour，and similarly，15 times from the
pepper plants.The scientists believe that this scream
was probably to warn other plants around and told
them the bad was happening.When the scientists cut
the plants off water，the tomato plants even cried
more Mayday sounds with 35
times in an hour while the pepper plants just 11
